World Babel ("we", "our", "the extension") is a browser extension that provides real-time translation for text inputs. We are committed to protecting your privacy.

1. Data We Collect

• Text you translate: When you trigger a translation, the text in your active input field is sent to our server for processing. We do not store this text after the translation is returned.
• Anonymous device identifier: A randomly generated ID (UUID) is stored locally on your device to track daily usage limits. This ID cannot be used to identify you personally.
• Usage counts: We track the number of translations per device per day for enforcing free-tier limits. This data is automatically deleted after 48 hours.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect your name, email, or any personal information.
• We do not collect browsing history or page content beyond the text you explicitly translate.
• We do not use cookies or tracking pixels.
• We do not sell or share any data with third parties.

3. How Your Text Is Processed

When you trigger a translation, the text is sent via HTTPS to our server (hosted on Cloudflare Workers), which forwards it to a large language model API (such as DeepSeek) for translation. The translated text is returned to your browser. Neither our server nor the LLM provider retains your text after processing.

4. Data Storage

• Local storage: Your translation mode preference, target language, and device ID are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API.
• Server storage: Only anonymous usage counts and subscription status are stored on our server, keyed by your anonymous device ID.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Cloudflare Workers: Hosts our API proxy server.
• DeepSeek / OpenAI: Provides the translation AI model. Their privacy policies apply to text processed through their APIs.

6. Security

All communication between the extension and our server uses HTTPS encryption. API keys are stored securely on the server side and are never exposed to the client.

7. Children's Privacy

This extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
